WordPress Is Holding Back Growing Florida Businesses
Why I steer growing Central Florida businesses off DIY WordPress sites, what owners actually need to edit, and when it's time to hand the hard parts to a pro.
I'll say it plainly. For a serious business that's growing, WordPress is out.
I know a lot of people will disagree. That's fine. Here's why I think it.
Why people still use it
Convenience. You can set it up yourself, install a theme, add a plugin for everything, and edit it in the admin.
That's a real benefit when you're starting out. When you're one person with no budget, DIY makes sense.
Where it goes wrong
The business grows. The site doesn't.
Now you have 25 plugins that need updates. Something breaks after one of them updates. The page builder makes everything slow. The quote form plugin stopped sending emails three weeks ago and nobody noticed.
You're running a business in Kissimmee or Orlando and you're also, without meaning to be, a part-time web admin. Staying DIY once the business is growing is self-sabotage.
What owners actually need to edit
When I ask owners what they change on their site, the list is short.
- Text. Prices, hours, a sentence about a new service.
- Photos and attachments. New jobs, new products, a PDF.
- Maybe a new page once in a while.
That's it. Nobody wants a clunky admin with 60 menu items to do that. They want a simple box. Type the change. Attach the file. Done.
That's where things are heading, and it's how I build now.
Presentation matters more than ever
Your website is how people decide if you're legit before they ever call. A slow, broken, or dated site costs you jobs you never hear about.
Branding and presentation online matter more now than they ever have.
So what should you do
Run your business. Hire a pro for the hard stuff. The build, the speed, the forms, the search basics, the hosting.
Keep the simple edits in your hands. That's the split that works.
If your site is a WordPress install that's gotten out of hand, email me. I'll tell you honestly whether it's worth moving. If you're moving, read how to keep your Google rankings first.
