Practical AI for Orlando Businesses. What's Actually Worth Building in 2026
Where AI helps a small or mid-size Central Florida business today, where it doesn't, and the guardrails I put on every assistant I build.
Every business owner I talk to in Orlando has been pitched an AI something this year. A chatbot. An agent. A tool that "runs your marketing."
Some of it is useful. A lot of it isn't. Here's how I sort it.
Where AI earns its place
- Answering the same questions all day. Hours, service areas, what you sell, how quotes work. An assistant that answers from your real info and hands off to a person when it should.
- Intake. Asking the right follow up questions before a lead reaches you, so you're not calling back just to find out what they wanted.
- Internal search. Finding the right doc, price sheet, or past job without digging through folders.
- Drafting. First drafts of replies, descriptions, and notes that a person reviews.
Where it doesn't
- Making promises to customers. Prices, timelines, availability. That stays with you.
- Doing things in your systems without someone saying yes.
- Anything where being wrong costs you a customer and nobody checks.
The guardrails I use
I've put GPT, Claude, and Gemini into backend services for real businesses. Same rules every time.
Grounded. It answers from your actual info, not whatever it guesses. If it doesn't know, it says so and points to a person.
Scoped. It only has access to what it needs. An intake assistant doesn't need your invoices.
Confirm before it acts. On the Nexrena ops platform, the AI copilot can propose a change, but it waits for a person to confirm before anything is written.
Keys on the server. API keys never go in the browser. Ever.
Tested before launch. I run the questions people actually ask and check the answers before it goes live. Not after a customer finds the bad one.
A small example
The dog in my office, West, is an AI guide. He answers questions about my work. He only uses what's on my portfolio, refers to me in the third person, and doesn't make up availability or promises. If you want to reach me, he hands you the contact card.
That's the pattern. Useful, honest about what it is, and it gets out of the way.
Where to start
Pick the one question your team answers ten times a day. Start there. Not with an "AI strategy."
